What do mattress specs mean to you? Knowing the specs (specifications) of a mattress don't tell you if it's the right bed for you. It doesn't even tell you how soft or firm the mattress will be. What the specs do give you is a way to judge value, how does it compare to a competitive product. We constantly shop our competitors on the web and the one thing that stands out is how much difference there is in the amount of information being given. Some give fairly comprehensive information – the type, gauge and number of coils, metal edge guards or foam edges, the amount and types of foam padding, whether it has specialty products - viscolastic memory foam or latex.
Others go out of their way to make the mattress seem as sexy as possible while giving you the least information they can. That makes it virtually impossible to compare value, which is probably what they want. These retailers will tell you that their prices are the best and expect you to believe them. It seems to me if they are unwilling to give you the specs on their product they must be afraid of competition.
There is a ton of bafflegab going on in the mattress industry. Don't be taken in by it. If they don't want you to compare what does that tell you? They have something to hide. Some of our suppliers reps have even told us they had to sign non disclosure agreements with a retailer not to share the specs of their mattresses with other retailers.
If you want to believe that their mattress is better and their price is better because they tell you it is, and because they spend 100's of thousands of dollars telling you they have the best product for the best price then go ahead and buy there, we can't help you. But if you are a little suspicious that they won't give you the specs and think that they are acting in their own best interest and not yours, then give us a try. We shop the competition constantly and make sure that we are offering the best value spec for spec. And if it should happen that we can't beat their price we'll tell you and then you'll know you really did get the best deal.
